This is a finished model of the Honda F-1 RA272 `65, which originally appeared in Tamiya catalog as Item 20043. The RA272 used parts made by Honda from nose to tail, and it represented one of the manufacturer finest achievements when the car piloted by Richie Ginther took the checkered flag in first place in the 1965 Mexican GP. In fact, it was the first ever Japanese-made car to win a Grand Prix race, which guarantees its history in the annals of Japanese racing. The car was powered by a 1.5-liter V12 engine which was situated longitudinally in the rear of the machine.

Japan’s Maiden Victor
The 1965 Mexican Grand Prix was not just the last contest of the season, but also the last Formula One race using normally aspirated 1.5 liter displacement engines. It ended in a momentous win for Richie Ginther’s Honda RA272, which in the process became the first Japanese car to lead home the field in a Formula One race. Perhaps the most striking component of the RA272 was a powerful, transversely mounted V-12 cylinder engine said to yield in excess of 230 horsepower.

About the Model
1/20 scale finished plastic display model of the Honda RA272. Length: 194mm, Width: 83mm. This realistic model captures the cigar-shaped form of the RA272 with accuracy. The 1.5-liter V12 engine is recreated faithfully, including details such as the 12 individual air funnels, intricate piping and engine-rear gearbox. Fuel lines are depicted using rubber tubing. Also includes a recreation of the plug cables stretching from the ignition coil to the engine, as well as the engine’s breather pipe which sits under the roll bar. Realistic mirrored stickers are used to depict side mirrors. The 3-piece engine cowling can be removed just like that on the real car. Rubber tires feature detailed tread patterns and have logos printed on the sidewalls in white.
